With December only a few months away, it can be difficult to find quick and cost-effective methods to infuse your space with signature holiday warmth and comfort. But decking the halls doesn’t have to take hours of your time or large sums from your wallet. Find three ideas to bring instant Christmas charm to your home below.
1. Christmas Pillows
Someone once asked me if you could ever have enough pillows. I remember staring at them as if I didn’t understand the question. Pillows make the world go ’round. Especially if they have a little merry. Here are some of my favorite ideas to decorate with pillows:
• Tuck a pillow on a bench.
• Adding one Christmas pillow to a sofa makes all the other pillows look Christmassy too.
• Layer a Christmas pillow in a basket with patterned throws.
• Create a “pillow slipcover” with a patterned holiday runner and ribbon.
• Stack pillows on a bench.
• Make tassels in red and green and add them to the corners of a plain pillow.
Find Christmas pillows that are unique and creative and add to your Christmas pillow collection this year.
Expert Tip: You can tie two Christmas napkins or dish towels together around a square pillow form to create an instant Christmas pillow.
2. Red-and-White Flocked Tree
I love walking through the snowy woods as much as the next person. Sigh. But I live in Texas where snow is in short supply. So I did the next best thing. I decorated a flocked tree in the dining room.
Here are a couple of my best tips for decorating a tree with flocking:
• Use floral picks to tuck additional white flocked branches into the tree to make it look extra fluffy.
• Add red ornaments or other brightly colored ornaments for a pop of color against the flocking.
• Use an oversized snowflake as a tree topper to complete the “snowy woods” theme.
• Tuck red-and-white snowflake ribbon in the branches for more contrast.
Now your flocked tree is ready for the season. Here’s to all the snowy winter wonderlands.
Expert Tip: Add pom-poms to a basic red tree skirt to add a little whimsy under the tree.
3. Mini Wreaths
I am all about a wreath for the front door. It says welcome. Come on in. Let’s be friends. But sometimes a larger wreath can be a little overwhelming. That’s why I love mini wreaths like these. You can use them anywhere.
Here are just a few of the places I’ve displayed a mini wreath:
• On the front of a plate
• Tied to a planter
• Grouped together on a wall
• Tied with a ribbon onto a doorknob
• Hanging from a cup rack
These wreaths are so easy to create. All you need is a roll of boxwood garland from the craft store. I created all these wreaths from one roll of garland. Cut off an 18-inch length, roll it into a circle (usually the boxwood is wired so it will stay in place after you’ve formed the circle. Then tie with a ribbon and decorate.
Expert Tip: These mini wreaths would also make a fun Advent display. Create 25 wreaths, hang them on a pegboard with ribbons with numbers from 1 to 25. Then hang one on a flocked tree every day.
