Mom, Thanksgiving is a time to spend with friends and family, enjoy good food, maybe watch some football or a parade, and give thanks for the many blessings God has given us. This Thankfulness board is a unique and stylish way to encourage your children to practice gratitude this holiday season. It makes a great activity to keep kids occupied on Thanksgiving or as a family activity you can display as a festive fall decoration all month long. The board is easy to make, inexpensive, and doesn’t take a lot of time to create.
What you’ll need:
- Chalkboard Frame
- Chalk/Chalk Pen
- Twine/Ribbon
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Leaves (download here)
- Printer (or create your own leaves out of construction paper)
- Pen/Marker
Instructions:
Step 1: Using chalk or a chalk pen, write a header for your board with something meaningful to your family, such as “Thankful” or “Give Thanks”. For a more finished look, you can use chalk first to get the writing the way you want it and then trace over it with a chalk pen to make the lines thicker.
Step 2: Cut out leaves (You can download the free leaf template here.) For younger children, you might want to cut out the leaves for them, especially if you intend on displaying this as a decoration. Older kids can help with this step.
Step 3: Measure 3 equal-lengths of string, leaving some extra on either side of your board.
Step 4: Space out the 3 lengths of string vertically across the board.
Step 5: With a hot glue gun, glue the string to the side or back of the frame. If you don’t have a glue gun, tacks would also work for this step.
Step 6: Have children write down what they are thankful for on the leaves and then clip these on your board. The whole family or whomever is at your Thanksgiving gathering could participate in this activity.
Step 7: Display your board as a reminder to you and your kids about all the wonderful things to be thankful for this season.
Your friends at Christian Mommy want to express our thankfulness for you and all you do to extend God’s love to your family. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
