I’m good at working toward my goals like a woman on a mission…at least in the beginning.
But somewhere along the way, my enthusiasm fades (or plummets off the cliff entirely). I struggle to regain momentum, and I’m ready to chuck the idea and go back to life before my grand goal came into being.
If you find yourself in that boat, I want to give you a little power boost today. I may not know you personally, and I may not know what your goals are. But I do know you can achieve them.
Here’s why…
1. You were made distinctly for a purpose.
God didn’t put you on this earth by accident. He crafted you with His own hands and planned good things for you long before you were born. If your goals feel unreachable because you see everyone else and think you don’t measure up, it’s time to put those lies to rest and remember Whose you are.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. – Ephesians 2:10 NLT
2. You are equipped with perseverance.
It’s easy to preach perseverance to our kids, isn’t it? But applying it to our own lives is another matter, especially when the goal seems unreachable. The good news is that endurance doesn’t have to be drummed up on your own. God has given you everything you need, and the race is already marked out for you.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. – Hebrews 12:1 NIV
3. You are strongest when you are weak.
Weakness is not a word I love. It means I have limits. It implies I’m incapable. But you know what the Bible says about being weak? It says those are the moments when I have the most power, because I’m 100% reliant on God. His power is enough. His grace is sufficient. Anything is possible.
He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
4. You are not running alone.
Working toward a goal can be lonely sometimes. Maybe no one understands why you care so much. Maybe they don’t have time to listen to your status updates. Maybe you need a little encouragement or guidance, but there’s none to be found. God’s Word says you have a constant Companion who walks with you, guiding you and pointing out the next turn when it’s time to take it.
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” – Isaiah 30:21 NIV
Your motivation may be sidelined, but that’s not the end of your story. By God’s power and presence, you can achieve your goals. Go get ‘em, mama!
