Celebrate Love with This Fun Family DIY Project

Valentine’s Day isn’t just reserved for romance. It can be a day for celebrating all kinds of love. Encourage your children to share about the things they love and create a fun and stylish holiday decoration you can display in your home this month. Here’s an idea for a simple craft your family can do in the weeks leading up to February 14 (and beyond!).

What you’ll need:

  • Chalkboard or frame
  • Chalk (or chalk pen)
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Glue or tacks to attach twine
  • Scissors
  • Clips
  • Paper hearts (download here)
  • Printer
  • Pen/marker

Instructions:

Step 1: Using chalk or a chalk pen, write a title for your board such as “Love” or “XOXO”. For a more finished look, you can use chalk first to get the writing the way you want it and then trace over it with a chalk pen to make the lines thicker.

Step 2: Measure 3 equal lengths or string and attach them horizontally to the board to create a place to hang your love notes.

Step 3: Cut out paper hearts (You can download the free heart template here). For younger children, you might want to cut out the hearts for them, especially if you intend on displaying this as a decoration. Older kids can help with this step.

Step 4: Have children write down what they are love on the hearts and then clip these on your board. These free hearts have ideas already started for you on them. The whole family could participate in this activity.

Display your board as a reminder to you and your kids about all the wonderful things to love about one another. Hang it up or set it on a table and lean it against the wall so little ones can easily access it.

As you celebrate this holiday season, don’t forget to thank God for the eternal and unconditional love He freely gives to you and your family. Mom, we love you and appreciate everything you do for the people in your life. Keep up the great work!
